West St. Paul Votes on Hockey Rink Cooling System Contract

Indoor ice rinks across Minnesota are getting help to replace their freon cooling systems.

On Monday, the West St. Paul City Council voted to move forward on the contract with a consultant to do the design work on an official plan to make the switch to an ammonia-based cooling system.

Freon will stop being imported to the U.S. by the year 2020.

City to Break Ground on Activity Center in Rosemount

Construction of a new activity center in Rosemount will begin Dec. 2 when the city council breaks ground at the site.

The center will provide space for community activities, especially those geared toward older residents. It will have three meeting rooms and a more casual seating area overlooking a patio.

Fire Breaks Out at Eagan BP Gas Station

Firefighters were on the scene of an Eagan gas station fire overnight.

The fire happened just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the BP gas station near Nicols Road and Diffley Road. A KSTP photographer on the scene said the service area and the car wash were the areas that were on fire, and smoke could be seen pouring out of the car wash.

Valley Middle School gets 'Fab Lab'

Valley Middle School in Apple Valley is getting some high-tech help in the classroom. The school's new "Fab Lab" is designed for young students. 

"Fab" is short for fabrication lab, and it has everything from 3-D printers to vinyl cutters.

"It's a place you can make almost anything," said teacher Luke Podmers.
