FAA Looks to Quiet Planes Over Local Neighborhoods

Melissa Loftis says, when she and her husband bought their home in the Kenny neighborhood by the airport, the noise factor from airplanes didn't deter them.

"No, it was our first home and not even aware of thinking about something like that," Loftis said. 

Now with a toddler the noise has become more of a disruption to their daily lives.

Voter Turnout High in Hastings

Hastings voters turned out in big numbers for the election.

The city had a voter turnout rate of 78.84%. That’s bigger than the state average voter turnout rate of about 76%. Both rates are much higher than the national voter turnout rates. Minnesota is number one overall once again for voter turnout.

'Community Conversation' on Area Lakes Nov. 15

Community members will gather next Thursday to learn about a water quality study being done on area lakes and discuss their visions for the lakes.

Preseason Prep Hockey Rankings Released

The Associated Press preseason poll for Minnesota high school hockey, provided by Let's Play Hockey newspaper. First-place votes are in parentheses.

South St. Paul Mayor, 3 Council Members Returning

South St. Paul voters re-elected Mayor Beth Baumann and three council members.

Baumann received 73 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Donald Madland, who got 26 percent.

Incumbents Lori Hansen (25 percent), Chris Lehmann (22 percent) and Dan Niederkorn (21 percent) were all re-elected to the city council.

Eagan City Council Lifts Burn Ban

The burn ban that prohibited recreational fires in Eagan was officially lifted by the city council during their meeting Wednesday.

The ban was put in place Oct. 16 due to extremely dry conditions at the time.

The city is asking resident to use extreme caution if they have a recreational fire and they remind that burning yard waste is never allowed.
